'Provençal' Style Waggon

This wagon was built last year (2015). The aim when building it was to create a picturesque and comfortable “extra room” to turn any garden into the best romantic place to spend a night. It has been displayed in the Costa Brava’s most famous open-air fair. Specially built to handle a spacious and comfortable double bed and a room for having meals, it’s been designed according to the Provençal tradition of herb-selling Gypsy families.

It has a huge bevelled window, discrete electric lighting, and a fabric porch matching its colours. Creatively painted using Swedish “milk painting” technique, handpainted flowers on the side, and decorated with original William Morris wallpaper.

Genuine reason for sale: we’re looking forward to building the next craft so we’re considering selling this one or renting it for tourism. Can be exported anywhere in the world, or personally delivered to anywhere in the North of Spain / South of France.

Strictly no time wasters please.

Two Model Vardos,
plus a
large collection
of literature and photos

Handcrafted wooden bowtop vardo with green canvas roof and battery-powered lights.
In a very good condition, just needs finishing. It was handcrafted, with individually picked flower designs. Beautifully made, with scope to be handfinished: the wood, etc can be painted an array of colours. It comes with brass rings for the wheels, and wheel treads ready to be attached after the wood is painted (as well as spare bulbs). It has been fully fitted and furnished inside, with furniture, curtains, bedding, etc as well as battery-powered lamps.

Size approximately 47cm high by 28cm wide by 52cm long, plus the horse frame at the front is an extra 38cm.

Very delicately made, so we would prefer collection or we could meet at an arranged point.

White-painted, larger scale, model caravan. Also ready to be hand-finished by the buyer.
Size approximately 50cm high by 39cm wide by 65cm long.

Large collection of caravan/Gypsy-based literature, both fiction and non-fiction, from a range of authors, as well as a couple of VHS.

Also a large collection of caravan, waggon and vardo photographs taken from all over the country, including photos of the inspiration for the model caravans.

 £400 for everything (can be purchased together or separately).

Stunning Full Size
Bowtop Waggon

In excellent condition and ready for the summer for showing, exploring or renting as alternative accommodation. Very manoeuvrable on original artillery carriage with wind on drum breaks, as new rubber tyres (air not solid) on original metal spoked wheels and spring leaf suspension. Axles are solid, sturdy, well painted and decorated and in perfect order. The floor is solid and sides simply yet beautifully filleted and painted with motifs and details. All wood work is traditionally butterfly chamfered and decorated all round.

The bow top has a nearly new canvas with only slight discoloration from storage and use.  It is stretched over traditionally hand crafted steam bent larch strips for durability and long lasting construction. Inside is light and airy with dry, clean upholstery and plenty of head room. With just over 6’ 3’’ internal head room this is perfect for multiple uses from children's day wagon to a couples retreat. Double bed at rear with storage under, as well as a small slide out table. Side benches with storage under. Beautiful Hay Rack or summer carrier at the rear with fully lined and decorated Pan Box under. There is also an electrical connection to an internal extension for power if required, perfect for hooking up a CD player and lamp for the evening.

The draw bars are included and are fully decorated and expertly fitted with brass fixtures and protected with leather jackets. There is also a removable set of steps with safety rubbers, decorated to match this beautiful wagon.

For longer term storage a full set of heavy duty, pre-cut and shaped covers are included. These are mounted with wooden bars (already fitted) and hooks so that they don’t rip and do not use the weak eyelets that pull out at the first sign of wind or cause damage.

Overall dimensions (approximate);

Main Body Length = 110 inches PLUS ALLOW FOR  draw bars (removable) and hay rack (storable).
Maximum Width = 74 inches
Carriage/floor width = 58 inches
Height from ground to floor = 30 inches
Total Height = 110 inches
Bow Top height = 80 inches
Headroom = 75 inches (6 foot 3 inches)

I can arrange fully insured transport to anywhere in the mainland UK for £2.00 per mile (one way) or there is plenty of space for you to collect.

Payment in full prior to delivery or collection.  Viewing is strictly by appointment only. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me by either phone or email.
